Making the player better

What is coaching? What is teaching? It’s about making the player better. As Aaron Rodgers famously said, you need to run the table.

If a manager can do this job well, then they are succeeding. If a co-worker is labouring, they should be guiding them, not giving disadvantageous feedback that is hardly going to inspire a potentially brilliant asset to the team. This takes patience.

You’re failing when your team isn’t thriving. Unfortunately, that is the reality of the game and our industry.

As designers, researchers, strategists, we are told to embrace our craft. Perhaps as we look upwardly, they should be doing the same.
